Alaska Airlines Baggage Fees: 2026 Bag Table

Alaska Airlines announced new North American checked-bag fees for tickets issued on or after April 10, 2026: $45 for the first bag, $55 for the second and $200 for each third or later bag in its published general table. It also ended the former general $5 online prepay discount. This is a dated policy announcement, not a complete price for every Alaska, Hawaiian or partner itinerary.

Read the date before reading the dollar amount

General category Earlier published amount Announced amount for eligible tickets from April 10, 2026
First checked bag $40 $45
Second checked bag $45 $55
Third or later checked bag $150 $200
General online or mobile prepay discount $5 when eligible No general discount

The announcement covers North American Alaska and Hawaiian flights. Its exceptions matter: Hawaiʻi travel has a distinct state-resident and interisland table, and Club 49 applies to qualifying Alaska travel. Atmos Rewards status, eligible cards, First Class and active-duty military can also change the allowance. An Alaska flight number alone is not proof that an unrelated partner carrier accepts the same bag or benefit.

If you pay the listed first and second bag charges, two standard pieces add up to $100 one way. A third paid piece adds $200, for $300 in listed bag charges. But that example leaves out extra weight, extra size, taxes, and any benefit you have. Our fee calculator won’t turn the announcement into a price for every Alaska trip; check the total in Alaska’s checkout.

Why paying early may no longer save $5

The announcement specifically removes the prior general online/mobile prepay discount for the new-ticket table. A traveler with a ticket from an earlier period should check that ticket's applicable policy rather than expecting today's or yesterday's discount automatically. A fare or loyalty benefit can still be more useful than an online payment tactic.

Alaska's Saver fare page states that its checked-bag allowance follows the Main fare policy, while status waivers can still apply. Check the exact ticket, route, operating carrier, bag count and cabin before treating the general table as your result. The Alaska airline profile summarizes the broader research and links the official source. If a bag is heavy or oversized, obtain a combined charge from Alaska instead of adding isolated fee rows without the complete rule.
