Use an actual upgrade quote
A fare with included baggage can be cheaper overall, but only when its premium is lower than the charges it genuinely avoids. Use the same flight, travelers and directions for both options.
Suppose the user enters a $70 fare premium and has already verified that the upgrade removes $100 of needed baggage charges. The baggage-based net saving is $30. These are illustrative user inputs, not a quoted fare from an airline.
The Air Canada long-haul examples in this pack provide a concrete bag comparison: Basic versus Standard can differ by $90 in first-bag charges under the stated ticket-date and currency conditions. That $90 is a break-even reference, not a guarantee that Standard costs less overall.
Remove misleading comparisons
Do not value a second included bag when the traveler will bring only one. Do not assume an upgrade refunds a bag already purchased. Do not assign a cash saving to flexibility or seat selection unless the user would otherwise purchase the same service at an actual quoted price.
Bundles can also change weight entitlement. A Frontier bundle with a qualifying 50 lb piece must be evaluated under that entitlement, not charged as a standard 40 lb bag and then advertised as cheaper.
The result should show airfare difference, bag charges avoided, remaining excess charges and net difference separately. When any price is unknown, report the break-even condition rather than inventing a winning option.
