Volaris Baggage Fees & Allowance: Rules and Sources

Here’s what we could confirm about Volaris bags as of 2026-11-01. Your fare, route, ticket date, benefits, and the airline flying the trip can still change the answer.

What we know: Some rules checked

If you don’t see a price here, it doesn’t mean the bag is free. Check the final charge and acceptance rules with Volaris for your flight.

When these rules apply

Volaris-operated flights under its current English baggage policy; inclusion depends on the purchased Zero, Flex or Plus fare and any added product. Current U.S. route service and a live fee are not established by this policy page.

Checked, carry-on and personal item limits

Start with these published limits, then check the fare you bought. Measure the packed bag on the outside, including wheels and handles.

Policy detailValue
Personal item (cm)45 × 35 × 20
Carry-on (cm)55 × 40 × 25
Carry-on weight (kg)10
Both cabin items together (kg)20
Standard checked size (linear cm)158
Largest accepted weight (kg)45

Checked bags, extra pieces and excess fees

  • Zero includes a personal item; a carry-on is a separate purchase. Flex permits a carry-on as one of its chosen benefits, subject to the booked fare.
  • A fare-included checked bag can allow 15 kg or 25 kg depending on the fare. A separately purchased standard checked bag allows up to 25 kg and 158 linear cm; a live itinerary quote is required for its price.

These prices apply only to the conditions listed above. Your route, fare, ticket date, or benefits can change what you pay.

How to add and pay for bags

  • Volaris lists booking, My Trips, its app, before check-in, the airport and its call center as bag-purchase paths; applicable prices can differ.

Free bags and possible savings

  • Compare the exact fare's included products with an added carry-on or checked bag before paying; the public policy does not establish one universal dollar amount.

Special items, connections and refunds

We couldn’t confirm one Volaris price that covers every sports item, stroller, or mobility device. Ask about the exact item you’re bringing, especially if another airline flies part of the trip. If a paid checked bag is delayed or lost, report it to the airline and keep the bag tag and fee receipt.

Watch out for this
  • The free underseat item is not the paid overhead carry-on. Measure the packed item against each side of the metric box.
  • The 45 kg per-piece ceiling is not an included allowance; excess weight or size can incur a separate charge.

Checked bags

Volaris says a fare-included checked piece can be 15 kg or 25 kg depending on the fare. A separately purchased standard piece is up to 25 kg and 158 linear cm; the fare and price still need the booking screen.

Carry-on

The published overhead box is 55 × 40 × 25 cm with a 10 kg carry-on limit. Volaris also limits the combined weight of the carry-on and personal item to 20 kg; Zero does not automatically include the overhead product.

Personal item

The published underseat item measures at most 35 × 45 × 20 cm. Zero includes that item, which does not make a second overhead suitcase free.

Overweight fees

A purchased standard checked piece can allow up to 25 kg. Volaris permits a per-piece maximum of 45 kg including excess, but charges for weight beyond the purchased allowance are separate and need a live quote.

Oversized fees

The ordinary purchased checked-bag size is 158 linear cm. Volaris names separate maximums for musical instruments and sports equipment; a larger ordinary suitcase is not automatically accepted merely by paying a standard-piece fee.

Extra bag numbers

The official policy permits up to five additional checked bags on a reservation. Each added piece must meet its purchased weight and size conditions, and the price depends on the actual booking.

Fare baggage allowance

Zero includes one personal item. Flex lets a traveler choose benefits such as a carry-on; Plus has baggage benefits subject to its fare terms. Read the selected benefits on the ticket, not only the fare name.

Add or pay for bags

Volaris lists purchase during booking, My Trips, its app, before check-in, at the airport and by call center. Compare the same product and route at each stage before assuming one channel is cheaper.

Free checked bags

The free item established for Zero is a personal item, not a checked bag. A fare may include a 15 kg or 25 kg checked product, but this profile cannot assign one universal free-bag count to every Volaris booking.

Sports equipment

A sports item can replace a separately purchased standard checked piece only when it meets the purchased weight and 158 cm size. Larger equipment follows the special sports service and may have an extra charge.

Family and medical bags

The reviewed general baggage page does not establish a complete infant or mobility-device allowance. Check Volaris accessibility and family terms for the item, battery and equipment type before packing.

Connecting flights

A U.S.–Mexico trip and another airline on a separate ticket can have different cabin boxes and baggage purchases. Check the operator of each segment and whether bags transfer or must be reclaimed.

Baggage refunds

The general baggage page lists purchase paths but does not resolve every unused-bag or disruption refund. Preserve the exact product and receipt, and use the carrier’s applicable conditions for that booking.

For any unresolved detail, check the Volaris policy for the current ticket and operating flight.
