The Southwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines details above may cover different fares or routes. Check who flies each leg and what each ticket includes before you compare a bag charge.
What changes between these airlines
Southwest mainland fees changed by ticketing or change date in April 2026 and its Choice Extra fare includes qualifying pieces. Delta cardmember and companion benefits have different eligibility. Compare after, not before, those allowances are known.
| Airline | When it applies | Standard bag limit | Published fee example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Southwest Airlines | Separate mainland and Hawaii interisland tables; booking, ticketing or change date matters. | 50 lb; 62 linear in | Mainland from April 9: $45/$55 for standard first/second bags without benefits. |
| Delta Air Lines | Standard U.S. domestic baggage; eligible fare and benefit checks remain necessary. | 50 lb; 62 linear in | $45 first bag, $55 second bag and $200 third bag. |
