Check each traveler separately

Delta introduced a second checked-bag benefit for eligible primary cardmembers on qualifying domestic travel from June 4, 2026. The important distinction is between the first-bag companion benefit and the second-bag primary-cardmember benefit.

Assume an eligible primary holder and one ordinary companion share a qualifying reservation, each checks two standard bags, and every card and reservation condition is met. The holder’s two qualifying bags are free. The companion’s first bag can be covered by the first-bag benefit, but the second is not automatically covered. Under the standard $55 second-bag rate, the group example totals $55—not zero.

Details to verify

The eligible products are the listed Delta SkyMiles Gold, Platinum and Reserve personal/business cards. “Basic Card Member” means the primary cardmember, not merely an additional cardholder. Required SkyMiles numbers must be attached in time, and the applicable ticket, flight and purchase conditions must be satisfied.

Do not stack a second-bag waiver on top of an itinerary that already includes two or more bags and call the next bag free. Heavy and oversized bags also remain outside the standard waiver.

What to do before paying

Review each passenger’s displayed allowance rather than assuming everyone shares the same result. Correct missing loyalty details through Delta. If a charge remains inconsistent, request an itemized review with the fare and eligibility evidence. This guide does not guarantee a refund or recommend applying for a new card to avoid one fee.
