Spirit Baggage Pages Should Now Explain Closure and Refund Paths

This is not an active bag-purchase guide

Spirit announced an immediate wind-down on May 2, 2026 and the cancellation of all flights. An old baggage article that still presents “Add a bag” as a current purchasing action can send travelers in the wrong direction.

The site should keep a clearly labeled historical entry, disable new baggage quotes and link to official restructuring information. Past fee tables may explain an old receipt, but they are not current offers.

Follow the original purchase channel

The company announcement distinguishes flight purchases made directly with a credit or debit card from agency purchases. It directs agency customers to their travel agent and says treatment of vouchers, credits and points will be determined through the bankruptcy process.

Do not stretch that announcement into a claim that every separately purchased ancillary service has already been refunded. A traveler with a bag receipt should preserve it and ask through the relevant official process about that particular payment.

Avoid stale rescue offers

Temporary accommodation offers from other airlines can expire. A closure page should not advertise an old emergency fare as presently bookable. Verify the current alternative independently and never describe a hypothetical replacement flight as a confirmed booking.

For developers, airline operating status must be checked before the baggage calculator returns a price. An inactive carrier should produce a closure/refund result, not a zero-dollar bag or a fabricated checkout link.

The examples above show how the cited rules work. They aren’t charges from a real booking.

Before you use a price

A listed fee may change with your fare, route, and ticket date. Check the linked airline policy alongside your booking before paying.
